SIFIDE – Investment in R&D
Investment in research and development companies increased around 50% in 2019, to EUR 1.168 billion.
On 4 August last, Agência Nacional de Inovação (ANI) released the data from the applications for the Tax Incentive System for Business R&D (SIFIDE) programme.
ANI found that the “expenditure in research and development (declared by companies during the 2019 financial year) increased significantly, going from EUR 782 million in 2018 to EUR 1,168 billion in 2019, which corresponds to an increase of around 50%”, as a result of 2,316 applications to SIFIDE for the 2019 financial year, 739 more applications than in 2018, representing year-on-year growth of 47% in the number of applications.”
