Santarém, the "Insect Capital".

It was in September 2021 that the Mayor of Santarém, Ricardo Gonçalves and Councillor Nuno Serra visited the developing and expanding facilities of Entogreen. Daniel Murta, CEO of Ingredient Odyssey, the company that owns the EntoGreen brand, chose the city of Santarém for the installation of this bio-industry, which has an ongoing investment of 10 million euros, and which will use black soldier flies to transform vegetable waste into protein for animal feed and fertilisers.

According to him, the animal feed industry will be the main market for EntoGreen's first products, which will be incorporated mainly in fish and poultry feed. The project will initially have a research unit, with 8 researchers, and expects to create more than 66 jobs.
